Course Objectives
- Comply with legal requirements with an emphasis on safe practice
- Identify the risks associated with using an ATV
- Select appropriate P.P.E.
- Identify the controls and components
- Understand the function of all instruments
- Carry out daily checks as indicated in the operator’s Manual
- Carry out appropriate pre-start checks
- Identify and report any faults
- Start up and ride over a variety of terrain and ground conditions
- Carry out an 'Emergency Stop' without locking the wheels
- Carry out a failed hill climb
- Operate the ATV safely on appropriate slopes
- Identify loading/towing capacities
- Secure a suitable load and drive over appropriate terrain
- Safely hitch a trailer or trailed implement and manoeuvre through a defined course
- Perform ‘after-use’ maintenance
- Understand legal and practical requirements for travelling on the public road
Who is the course for?
Anyone required to use an ATV as part of their work. This would include novices and experienced operators who require their skills up-dating, with certification.
Duration/Format
CLVA05X - 2 days (complete novices may need 3 days)
CLVA06X - 1 day (with prior certificate of basic training or signed experience operator declaration form)
Instructor/Trainee Ratio
Suggested 1:6 with at least 3 machines

Day Two
- Limits of towing trailers/implements
- Loading capacities
- Causes of accidents/how to prevent them
- Daily Checks on all equipment
- Loading of racks/hitching up trailers
- Assessment of riding/hitching/loading
- Summary/Review
Facilities/Equipment Required
- Motorcycle type crash helmet, which may be open face or full face style
- Overalls, protective clothing and boots
- Eye protection
- Comprehensive tool kit
Venue
Liaise with Instructor for suitable site for riding practice. Warm, well lit building with space for allmachinery to be worked on, and seating. Washroom and toilet facilities.

- 7 days notice - full fee refunded
- 3-7 days notice - half fee refunded *
- 1-3 days notice - quarter fee refunded *
